Are you a Pharisee?
Of course not. No one is a self-proclaimed Pharisee.
But the words of Jesus pierce our souls in Matthew 11 and 12. Jesus is hard on the people because they were not satisfied by John or Jesus. They were more consumed with their rules than the message and the messengers.
Basically, Jesus says, "You guys sit around and whine all the time (11:16) because you can't have it your way. The message isn't being fulfilled as you thought. The messengers aren't what you thought they'd look like. They preach differently. They talk differently. They don't obey the 'rules.' They threaten your traditions. They're not 'biblical' enough for you."
If we see people being drawn to Christ in different ways than we're used to, with people who use different methods than we're used to- let's rejoice with them.
We need to be discerning, of course. But let's guard against the critical spirit of the Pharisees.
